Darwin was the first of seven children born to Clifford S and Brelia Orchard Bowden. He spent his childhood in northern Utah, where he graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, UT, in 1941. In July, 1943, he was called to serve in the US Army. After two and a half years of service, he landed in New Jersey on Jan. 1, 1946, where he received an honorable discharge. He worked in Texas for the next five years, rebuilding motors, then in 1951 he came to Moore, ID, to visit his parents. During his visit he met Alene Adams, and they were married Dec. 26, 1951, in Blackfoot, ID. To this union four daughters were born, Raylene, LuAnn, Deanna, and Kathy. He worked at the INL as a concrete foreman, and laborer, and for The Lost River C0-op from 1977 to 1993, retiring at age 70.
