Clifford Stokes Bowden, 87, retired farmer in the Moore area, died September 15, 1987, at the home of his son in Logan, Utah, after a long illness.

He was born December 5 1899, at Lewiston, Utah, to Joseph and Annie Stokes Bowden. He spent his childhood and young adulthood at Lewiston, where he helped his father on the family farm. On September 6, 1922, he married Brelia Orella Orchard at Salt Lake City. The marriage was solemnized Jan. 18, 1935, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple.

They farmed at Lewiston, Utah, for 20 years, moving to the Lost River Valley in 1940. After farming for 32 years south of Moore they sold their farm and retired.

Bowden was employed for two years as a ditch rider for the Big Lost River Irrigation District, and was also a bus driver for Butte County School District fer 18 years. He was an active member of the LDS Church. The new Moore LDS Stake stands on part of the original family farm.

Survivors include his wife of Moore; five sons, Darwin of Moore, O'Deen of Salt Lake City, Spence of Ogden, Utah, Date of Castro Valley, Calif., and Joseph of Logan, Utah; two daughters, Janet Shirley of Lafayette, Ore., and Kaye Hope of Idaho Falls; a brother, Lawrence Bowden of Moore; 30 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. in the Moore LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Merlin Waddoups officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery at Arco under the direction of Marvel Memorial Chapel of Arco.
