Benjamin Hayes Byrd, age 81, of Bakersville, NC, passed away December 15, 2005, at his home. He was the son of the late R. H. and Mabel Webb Byrd. He was self employed in the Timber Industry, and was a Veteran of The United States Army. Mr. Byrd was a member of Red Hill United Methodist Church, and attended Mars Hill College. He was a member of Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 AF&AM, and was a Director for French Broad Electric Corp, and a past member of board of directors for Northwestern Bank .
Survivors include; wife, Kathleen G. Byrd, of the home, one son, Phil Byrd, of Spruce Pine, NC, two daughters, Nancy Bragg, of Asheville, NC, and Betty Hughes, of Bakersville, NC, three brothers, James Byrd, Bradley Byrd, and Jack Byrd, all of Bakersville, NC, one sister, Lois Gouge, of Bakersville, NC, five grandchildren, Krystal Ellis, Kim Pittman, Ashley Kirkland, Dale Garland, and Abby Garland, and one great granddaughter, Leanna Ellis.
Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by; one sister, Betty B. Ayers.
