Indianapolis Times - Thursday, December 9, 1926:

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the home in Winter Apartments on North Meridian Street for Mrs. Viola West Holtzman, 60, wife of former Mayor John W. Holtzman, who died Wednesday night following an illness of eight months. Dr. Lewis Brown, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, will be in charge of services while burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Holtzman was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. John G. West. In 1895 she was married to Mr. Holtzman at Reading, Pennsylvania, and they immediately came to Indianapolis where Mr. Holtzman was practicing law. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Propylaeum Association, John Herron Art Institute, and the Woodstock Club.

Surviving besides the husband are a daughter, Mrs. George H. Doane, Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. James E. Roberts, Indianapolis; a brother, W. H. West, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

READING, PENNSYLVANIA, OCTOBER 31--John W. Holtzman, a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana bar, was married here this evening to Miss Viola West, daughter of the late John G. West, Manager of the Scott Works of the Reading Iron Company. The wedding took place at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. George Edwin Stevens in the presence of guests from Philadelphia, New York, Bethlehem, Lebanon, and Indianapolis. Miss Florence Gildersleeve, daughter of Ex-Excise Commissioner Gildersleeve of New York, was maid of honor, and Dr. Henry Van Hummel of Indianapolis was best man. Miss West was given way by her brother, Barnett H. West, and the ceremony was performed by Rev. William P. Orrick, D.D., death of Christ Cathedral.
