Indianapolis Journal - Wednesday, October 8, 1890:

Mrs. Elizabeth Denny, widow of Theodore V. Denny, who died Monday, aged eighty-five years and six months, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. John W. Thompson, No. 134 Fletcher Avenue, was one of the oldest residents of this State, having lived in Indiana continuously since 1818 and in this county sixty-seven years. When she came to Marion County, there were but six houses in the territory now covered by this city. Her husband was one of the organizers of the first and only Baptist church in Indianapolis, and in the death of Mrs. Denny that church loses its oldest member. She was an earnest and zealous believer in the doctrines of her church, and a few years ago made donations amounting to $1,500 to Franklin College and to foreign and Home missions.

For several months past, she visibly failed in body and mind. One week before her death, she fell into a stupor from which she never wholly aroused. She was the mother of eleven children, three of whom died in infancy, two after maturity, and six survive. Her surviving children are:

Mrs. John W. Thompson, No. 134 Fletcher Avenue
Joseph Addison Denny, Lake City, Iowa
William C. Denny, Prospect Street
Mrs. J. H. VanDeman, Warren Township
Austin F. Denny, this city
Albert W. Denny, this city

She leaves twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In the campaign of 1888, it was matter of newspaper comment that her sons, sons-in-law, and grandsons, eighteen in number, all but one voted the Republican ticket.
