Emory Bryan Dies: Ex-Basketball Coach
Funeral services for Emory W. Bryan, former basketball coach, 2230 1/2 Broadway, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Robert W. Stirling Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Bryan, 57 years old, died Sunday in his home.
A life-long Indianapolis resident, Mr. Bryan was coach of the Southport High School team in 1924 when it was the first Marion County team to win the sectional tournament.
Later he taught science and drafting at Arsenal Technical High School.
An Indiana National Guardsman, Mr. Bryan served as a pilot with the 113th Observation Squadron as first lieutenant. In 1940 he became a pilot trainer and after World War II became a member of the audit section of the Army Finance Center.
A graduate of Manual Training High School in 1918 and Purdue University in 1922, he received his master's degree from Indiana University.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity and National Guard Association and a fomer member of the Indiana State Teachers Association.
Surviving him are the widow, Mrs. Louisa B. Bryan; two sons, Emory B. and Donald H. Bryan, both of Indianapolis; a brother, Frank A. Bryan of Fort Wayne, and three grandchildren.
