According to his marker, Noah Thompson served in the 7th Regiment Alabama Cavalry. He was captured July 7, 1864 at Marietta, GA near Atlanta. He died of Jaundice.

Many believe that Noah Thompson in this grave is the same man as Noah L. Thompson born in GA in 1826, married to Lydia Margaret Roberts in Jacksonville, FL 1848 and enumerated in the Levy Co, FL 1860 Federal with Lydia and daughters Caroline, Lucinda, and Margaret. Research shows the Noah L. Thompson never came home from the war. He enlisted in the Florida 7th.

Florida Roster in the book "Soldiers of Florida in the Seminole Indian, Civil and Spanish-American Wars" published in May 14, 1903 by Florida Board of State Institutions has in the Civil War Roster a N. S Thompson FL 6th buried at Camp Chase in grave 253.

A single page Federal POW Record:

"Noah L. Thompson Private 7 Florida Infantry (No company mentioned) Name appears as signature to an Oath of Allegiance to the United States, subscribed and sworn to at Chattanooga, Tenn., the day and year set opposite the several names. Place of residence Levy Co. Fla. Complexion (unable to transcribe) hair; black eyes gray height 5 ft. 9 in. July 14, 1864. (At the bottom of the page it says) Indorsement shows: Roll of rebel deserters who have taken the oath of amnesty at Chattanooga, Tenn."
