Anna C. Gerber November 28, 1920 - December 19, 2009 Anna C. Gerber was born in Bruce Crossing, MI on November 28, 1920 and died December 19, 2009 in Bakersfield. She grew up in this special part of our country with other families who had immigrated from Cornwall, Germany and Finland to work in lumbering, copper and silver mines of the Upper Peninsula. She was raised with strong values of hard work, family, church and hospitality. She moved to Bakersfield in 1946 and worked many years as the baker for Fruitvale School. In retirement she enjoyed tooling leather, repairing saddle blankets and trips to Bit & Spur shows with her husband, James Gerber. Anyone who came to her home was invited to eat with them and there was always a pot of coffee and a plate of cookies ready. She also fed all the stray cats in the neighborhood. She was a hard-working woman who always put her husband and family first. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, James Gerber; her sons, Edward and Raymond his wife Roxanne; her brothers, William, Albert, Fred and Ernest. She is survived by son, James W. Gerber and fiancée Reba; brother, Otto Cook and wife Katherine; grandchildren, Cydney, Brian, Aaron, Heidi and Pat Gerber; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all the kind care-givers at Pacifica, Hoffmann Hospice, Mercy Hospital and Dr. Ahman. Visitation is today Tuesday, Dec. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 2:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA.
