Merna F. McLelland, 79, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009, in Kansas City, Missouri, with her family at her side. She was born June 18, 1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sylvester and Florence (Miller) Minnis. She lived in several states before settling in Oklahoma, where she worked for 30 years at Community Bank, starting out as a bank teller and working her way up to one of the six vice presidents. She loved to travel and visit friends and family while going to flea markets, garage sales and antique stores. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Oklahoma City. After retiring she moved to Arkansas for 4 years and then on to Kansas City, to be close to her brothers and sisters. She lived with her daughter, Gail and her partner, Jennifer, for the last year and a half. Merna was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Debbie Mercer and Beth McLelland; and sons, Tim McLelland and John McLelland. She is survived by her daughter, Gail McLelland and her partner, Jennifer Alsup; son, Andrew McLelland; brothers, Orville Minnis and his wife, Mary Ann, and Al Minnis and his wife, Nancy; sisters, Mary Ann Heyer and her husband, Jim, and Doris Allen and her husband, Bill; grandchildren, Jonathan Schwenke, Gayla Tyler and her husband, John, and Christie Mayer and her husband, David; and great-grandchildren, Dyllan, Cartney, Gabriella, Parker, Chandler and Teegan. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2009, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home chapel, with interment following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
