An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, 2-9-1968:
Funeral services for Mrs. M. L. Cooper of Gatesville were held at. 2 p. m. Sunday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel. The rites were conducted by Rev. Kenneth Patrick and Elder Floyd Muggins, and burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Cooper died last Friday morning in the local hospital. She was 84.
She was born Syrenia Frances Whiteley in Bell County Sept. 16, 1883, and was married to Mr. Cooper on Dec. 24, 1902. They came to Coryell County in 1912 and moved to Gatesville in 1941. Mr. Cooper died in 1950.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors are two sons, Ray Cooper of Carlsbad, N. M., and Roy Cooper of Kansas City, Mo., two daughters, Mrs. Doyle Singleton of Waycross, Ga., and Mrs. Henry Pirch of Holden, Mo.; a brother, Amos Whiteley of Lampasas; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Matthews and Mrs. Lula Muggins, both of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Cooper's funeral services were Ira D. Whiteley, Earl Whiteley, Buran Matthews, M. T. Whiteley, Tommie Humphrey and Happy Lee.
