Funeral services for Gary B. Adams, 74, were held at the Rising Star Church of Christ with A.C. Morris, Dan Flournoy, Richard Massey and David Harris officiating. He grew up near Gilmer and graduated from Union Grove High school. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. On 11 November 1949, Gary Adams married Johnnie Donawho of Moran, in Abilene, Texas. He attended Abilene Christian College where he received his Bachelor's degree in Business and his Master's degree in Bible. Gary was a minister of the Church of Christ for 53 years. He and his family served as missionaries for 10 years in the Netherlands [Holland]. In 1965, they moved to Cisco, where Gary taught Business and Bible for 21 years at Cisco Junior College. He was an elder at the Cisco Church of Christ and active with Lake Cisco Christian Camp. Gary and Johnnie returned to the mission field for three years in North Carolina before returning to Rising Star, where he finished his ministry work. Gary's knowledge of the Bible and his dedication to the Lord were well known and respected, not only locally, but world-wide, as he and Johnnie were responsible for establishing several congregations of the Church of Christ in the US and abroad. His legacy of service will live on for many generations. Survived by wife; four sons, Layne Adams, Darryl Adams, Barry Adams, Larry Adams; brother,Carlton Adams; sister, Merle Farrell; nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, two sisters; one grandson, Zackary.
