David M. Sutton was the son of James Levi and Aletha A. Shoulders Sutton, both of Macon County, Tenn. David, who was probably born in Macon County, married Sarah Amanda "Sallie" Russell, December 22, 1885 in Smith County. The ceremony was performed by Davey's uncle, David Colby Sutton. Sallie was the daughter of James M. and Martha A. Evans Russell, who are buried in the Davis Cemetery. Davey and Sallie lost five of their children at a young age. Cora, Floyd, Charley, Johnnie and Wilkie are also buried at Davis Cemetery. Their other sons who survived to adulthood were James "Jimmy", William Fisher, and Gilbert P. Sutton. After Davey's death, Sallie married W. M. Davis. She is also buried here with the inscription "S. M. Davis" on her tombstone.
