Sibell Penn is one of the most famous burials at Hampton Church, near Hampton Court Palace. She was nurse to King Edward VI, who was the only son of wicked Henry the VIIIth, and she appears to have died of smallpox. Sibell's remains were found and disturbed when the old church was demolished in 1829, since when there have been persistent reports that she has returned to her old rooms at Hampton Court Palace and haunts them, even operating a spinning wheel, which was eventually found and identified as probably being hers. The spectre is known as the 'Lady In Grey'. Edward's mother, Jane Seymour, died as the result of his birth, and may also be seen to be wandering about, together with a few others, possibly carrying their heads tucked under their arms, so, perhaps you should stay away from Hampton Court Palace on foggy winter nights. Remember, there may be no one to hear you scream. I'm writing this in a centuries-old house. It was lived in by Edward Lapidge, the man who disturbed Sibell's tomb, finding it empty - where could she have gone? It's isolated and overlooks the river. I'm alone, the owners are away and it's dark outside... What was that?... Aaaargh!.....
