John McCurry obtained 600 acres of land that is adjacent to both sides of the old Holly Springs Road & on both sides of Coldwater Creek.
Mr. McCurry built his home here as well as a cotton gin.

Departed this life on the 6th of December, 1857 at his residence in Hart Co., Ga., John McCurry in the 82nd year of his age. The deceased united
with the A. R. Church at Generostee about the time that Rev. R. Irwin took charge of the same. He was for many years a regular attendant although the church was 15 miles distant. While in the service during the War of 1812, his health was so impaired that he was removed home
under difficult circumstances. During this trip he contracted an aversion to riding in any kind of vehicle which never left him, so that
he rarely left home unless to attend church, an election, or where he thought his duty dernanded his presence on which occasion he generally
walked. ...He leaves a widow, a large number of children and grandchildren.
