WILMINGTON — Elizabeth "Betty" Crafts Pike, 84, a former resident of Wilmington, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, in Thompson House in Brattleboro. She had been a resident of Brattleboro since 1978. She was born in Wilmington on Dec. 19, 1916, the youngest child of Roswell P. and Meda (Gilbert)Crafts. She grew up in Wilmington, attending local schoolhouses and graduating from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1935. Mrs. Pike was married to Gordon C. Pike on Aug. 10, 1935, in Wilmington. Mr. Pike predeceased her Jan. 25, 1962. Mrs. Pike took great pride and devotion
in raising her five children. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who thoroughly enjoyed her family and home. In the summer months, she would spend a great deal of time with her family and tending to the large flower garden in which she took great pride. While her children were growing up, she was very active in the Wilmington PTA and was president of the Mothers Club for many years. During World War II, she assisted the war effort by knitting clothing for the White Cross. She had been a member of the former Universalist Church in Wilmington; when this closed, she began attending the Wilmington Congregational Church. Upon her relocating to Brattleboro, she became involved in the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program and had given 15 years of service. She was also an active participant in the activities programs at Thompson House.
Mrs. Pike is survived by a son, John G. Pike of Livingston, Texas; two daughters, Melanie P. Boyd of Wilmington and Mary Pike-Sprenger of West Dover; seven grandchildren, Brie E. Pike-Sprenger, Tyne A. Pike-Sprenger, Kim Y. Pike, John G. Pike, Alan C. Pike, Scott L. Pike, and Joshua N. Pike; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons and a grandson, Gordon Averell Pike, who died Dec. 12, 1993, and Timothy S. Pike and his son, Zachary Daniel Pike, who both died July 2, 1977.
Interment in the Pike family lot in Riverview Cemetery.
