Gordon Averell Pike, 55, died from gunshot wounds Sunday at his home (See below). He was born in Wilmington on April 30, 1938, the son of Gordon C. and Elizabeth (Crafts) Pike. On April 4, 1970, he was married to Mary Susan Decell, who also died Sunday from gunshot wounds. Mr. Pike was an electronics technician at International Business Machines in Essex Junction for 13 years. An Air Force master sergeant, he served two tours in Vietnam, retiring on June 1, 1979, after 20 years of service. He enjoyed his camp on Lake Champlain, his Siamese cats, boating, motorcycling, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Pike of West Brattleboro; a brother, John G. Pike of West Swanton; two sisters, Melanie Boyd and Mary Pike-Sprenger, both of Wilmington; an uncle; three nieces and four nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Hilary Pike, and their son, Zachary.

A couple from St. Albans was found dead in their home Sunday, the apparent victims of a murder-suicide. The Vermont State Police said that the deaths of Gordon Pike, 55, a native of Wilmington, and 45-year-old Mary Pike appeared to stem from a domestic dispute. Both victims died of gunshot wounds and a gun was recovered from the house, said Franklin County Deputy State's Attorney Howard Stalnaker. Stalnaker would not say what kind of weapon was recovered. Police would not release any further information about the incident. Next door neighbor Henry Lamothe said the last time he saw activity in the house was at about 2 a.m. Saturday when Mary Pike returned from her job at the Eveready Battery plant in Saint Albans. Lamothe said the Pikes were good neighbors and he was not aware of any problems the couple might have been experiencing.
