Oleta Fern Brown, a loving mother, wife, daughter, grandmother and Christian passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the age of 85. She was one of nine children born to Archie and Ellie Mattie (Kell) Barnes in White Flat, Oklahoma and raised in Mangum, Oklahoma. Oleta met her husband Robert Lee Brown and settled in Oklahoma City where together they planted roots and raised their family. Her natural gift for striking friendships and bridging generations made Oleta the thread that tied her extended family together throughout the years. A member of the Southwest Church of Christ for more than 50 years, Oleta was a devoted Christian whose faith was an anchor for the family and an example for the several generations of children and grandchildren. She will best be remembered as a loving wife and dedicated mother who always supported her husband and children with a gentle love and quiet determination for her children's happiness and success. "Nana" to her grandchildren, she was always the one family member to turn to in times of need or celebration, for she always provided the praise, encouragement or wisdom that would make sense of the world.
