Leonard Crump, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Born March 12, 1913, in Booneville, Miss., he was the son of Henry Clay Crump and Velma Robinson Crump.

Mr. Crump had been a resident of Oak Ridge for the past 60 years. He was retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division as an employee at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.

He was a member and a trustee of Oak Valley Baptist Church. His family said he enjoyed all the activities with his church and he enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Crump is survived by two sons, Elkie Crump of Youngstown, Ohio, and Lee Jones of Oak Ridge; three daughters, Stella Welch of Youngstown, Zelma Starr of Jackson and Janice Miller of Knoxville; his stepchildren, Annie Holland of Milwaukee, Wis., and Joe West of Pacifica, Calif.; his sister, Mary Simmons of Corinth, Miss.; and 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Della Crump, and by his second wife, Marion Crump, who died Feb. 25, 1985. Two children, three brothers, a sister and a stepdaughter also died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Oak Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Hardil Thomas officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
