Robert Riley Glendening one of twelve children that were born to William Riley and Florence Magerkurth Glendening. Bob, as he was known, graduated from high school at Burlington, Iowa and received his Masters Degree in Engineering from Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois. Following his graduation he proudly served in the United States Navy. On October 23, 1954, he was united in marriage with Dolores Elaine Frueh at Park Ridge, Illinois. To this union twin daughters were born on July 6, 1955, Marjorie Anne and Martha Lynne. Bob and Dolores continued to live in Park Ridge where Bob was a salesman in the Chicago area. He and his family moved to Pella, Iowa for the first time in 1980 and returned to Pella in 1986 where Bob was self-employed in the Pella area. On April 23, 1992, Dolores passed away at the age of 61 years. In May of 1993 he was united in marriage with Vivian Marie (De Heus) Van Maanen. Bob continued in sales and in 2005 became the commercial sales manager for Stravers Hardware. He loved working on his computer and was an avid reader who used the Pella Public Library extensively. Late Wednesday evening, December 2, 2009, he passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 75 years. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Vivian, and their blended family. They are: Marjorie Moore of Riverside, Iowa,Katie and Joey Conrad, Alyssa, Landon Conrad, and Dustin Moore,Taylor Moore, Jackie Moore Martha and Jerry Knickerbocker of Auburn, Michigan, Kelly Beelman, Jeremy Knickerbocker,Matthew Knickerbocker;(Curtis Van Maanen) Cathy Soroka of Huxley, Iowa, Alex, Erica and Anna Van Maanen; Tim and Lucia Van Maanen of Leighton, Iowa, Jesse, Keegan, Tanner, Haylie and Noah Van Maanen; Sam and Lisa Van Maanen of Pella, Iowa, Sarah, Aaron and Ryan Van Maanen; Russell and Amy Van Maanen of Cambridge, Iowa,Max, Mollie Van Maanen; Ben and Cheri Van Maanen of Coppell, Texas,Shelby, Peyton Van Maanen; Martin and Julie Van Maanen of San Luis Obisco, California, Seth Van Maanen, Ensley, Zack and Abby Allmon; Andrew and Shiela Van Maanen of Parker, Colorado, Preston Carda, Drew and Rhiley Van Maanen; Matthew Van Maanen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa Of his original family Bob leaves four sisters: Dorothea (Fred) Rehling of Abingdon, Illinois, Juanita and her husband, Clarence Den Adel of Pella, Arlene Rossetti and John Postma, and Shirley (Don) Wilkins all of Galesburg, Illinois; a step-sister, Martha Ruth and her husband, Edward Calkins of Advance, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Connie (Jerry) Frueh of Pella; and a host of nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Glendening; a step-son, Curtis Van Maanen; his father and mother, Riley and Florence Glendening; his step-mother, Flossie Glendening; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert Henry and Emma Marjorie Matlock Frueh; a brother, Edward Glendening who died in infancy, his brother and his wife, Howard and Helen Glendening; and the following sisters and their husbands: June and Newton Barnes, Lucille and R. E. Riceman, Bobbie and Hal Williams, Marguerite and Carl Hoambrecker, Betty and Gail Bowlyow; and three brothers-in-law: Fred Rehling, Donald Wilkins and J. Gerald (Jerry) Frueh. Bob loved his family.
