Juanita Pauline Glendening was born on February 19, 1923, the 8th child of 12 children born to Riley and Florence (Magerkurth) Glendening. She was born at Mt. Hamel, Iowa. As the family moved a number of times Juanita attended various grade schools and Pella High School in Pella, Iowa .

Juanita and Clarence Franklin Den Adel were united in marriage on July 29, 1939. To this union two children were born, Gerard and Judy. They lived on Clarence’s home place west of Leighton, Iowa until 1941. In 1941, they moved to Burlington, Iowa where Clarence worked as a plumber’s assistant. In 1943 they began farming and farmed in the Wright, Leighton and Otley, Iowa areas. Juanita worked for several years for her brother-in-law, John Den Adel, in his insurance business in Oskaloosa, Iowa and then at William Penn College before they moved to Otley. When they moved to Otley, Juanita became Clarence’s “chauffeur” because of his failing eyesight. Clarence retired from farming in 1997 and they moved into Pella. In 2011 Juanita and Clarence became residents at Vriendschap Village. Juanita continued to reside there after Clarence passed away on March 9, 2015. She became a resident of Assisted Living at Vriendschap after her stoke in August of 2015 until the time of her death. Juanita passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House on November 13, 2018, at the age of 95 years.

She was an avid reader and loved to do the New York Times crossword puzzles in the Des Moines Register. She was a wonderful cook, cooking many meals for her family over the years. She was well known at Vriendschap Village for her Dutch Letters. Per Vriendschap’s request, she held a class on how to make Dutch Letters. She was a very good seamstress, making most of her clothes and later making Dutch Costumes for her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Juanita was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother and Great- Great- Grandmother who will cherish her memory.

Of her extended family, Juanita leaves one sister, Shirley Wilkins of California; sisters-in-law: Florence (Den Adel) Ramsell of Waterloo, Iowa, Mae (Den Adel) Heyveld of Pella, Vivian (Robert) Glendening of Pella; and many nieces and nephews.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Clarence; her parents Riley and Florence Glendening; her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Evert, who died in infancy, June and Newton Barns, Marguerite and Carl Hoambrecker, Howard and Helen Glendening, Lucille and Rus Riceman, Dorothea and Fred Rehling, Bobbie and Hal Williams, Betty and Gail Bowlyou, Arlene and Al Rossetti, Robert and Delores Glendening; her parents-in-law, John W. and Bertha (Van Houweling) Glendening; and the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Don Wilkins, Arthur and Hazel Den Adel, Marion and Bernice Den Adel, Elmer Den Adel, who died in infancy, John and Norma Den Adel, Florene Den Adel, William Ramsell, and Gary Heyveld .

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 1:30 pm, Second Reformed Church, Pella, Iowa.
