U.S. Army Air Corps, WW II (1940-1945).
At Greenville Memorial Hospital. A 1950 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received his degree in Industrial Engineering, he moved to Aiken, SC in 1951. He worked more than 30 years for E.I. DuPont at its Savannah River Site.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Cannon Cowan in 1995; his parents, David Warren Cowan & Nola Augustine Howse Cowan; brothers, Warren Franklin Cowan & James Walter Cowan; sisters, Martha Cowan LaGraff & Virginia Cowan Kelley.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Cowan Allen, Patricia Cowan Thompson and her husband William, and Nancy Cowan Swanson; grandchildren, Harry Sholar Allen IV, Elizabeth Louise Allen, William Scott Thompson and his wife, Anna McDavid, Travis Cowan Thompson of Wiesbaden, Germany, James Joseph Swanson, & Caroline Catherine Swanson; sisters, Grace Cowan Shaefer of Florida & Marjorie Cowan Miduch of Texas.
Graveside services were conducted on Friday, January 11, 2008.
