William Sherman Tackett, 80, of North Vernon died Monday, Dec 27, 2004, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon, Indiana.

Mr. Tackett, a former Johnson County resident, was employed by Cummins Mid States Power as a foreman for 25 years, retiring in 1986. He had been an elder for United Baptist Church in Pike County Ohio, and Chester Hogg Church in North Vernon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a life-long member of the Disabled American Veterans Greenwood Post.

Born Aug 15, 1924, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, he was the son of Farrish L. and Estel L. Phipps Tackett. He married Mary C. Slayton on May 10, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He is survived by a son, Bennett Lee Tackett of Juneau, Alaska; two daughters, Marilyn Joyce Seidel of New Whiteland, Indiana and Kathryn Cooprider and her companion Sam Pearison of Jasonville, Indiana; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1994, a son-in-law, Russell Cooprider in 1994, and three brothers and five sisters.

Elder Ross Wright will conduct the funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home in Greenwood. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
