Floyd William Reed of Carlton, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the age of 84. Floyd was born in 1923 to William and Randi (Dahl) Reed in Wrenshall, Minnesota. He graduated from Wrenshall High School and Dunwoody Technical School. He was employed by the Northern Pacific Railway Company and the Burlington Northern Railway retiring after 33 dedicated years of service as Chief Clerk. Floyd married Hazel Olson on June 26, 1948 in Mahtowa.

Floyd enjoyed the outdoors, especially his 40 acres of woods. He loved working with his tractor, old cars, anything mechanical and was very proud of his family. Floyd was currently on the board of directors for Pineridge Homes of Cloquet and was a member of the ARC and was a past treasurer for the Northern Pacific Federal Credit Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Susie; three brothers, Frank, Lloyd "Bud" and Phillip Reed; a sister, Gina Switzer and his neighbor and special friend, Dennis Karp.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hazel; three sons, Steven (Donna) of Stillwater, James (Nancy) of Edina, and Joel (Debbie) of Carlton; a daughter, Carolyn (Matthew) Barritt of Ann Arbor, Michigan; six grandchildren, Chris, Emily, Erica, Bryan, Michael and Jenna; three brothers Raymond (Irene) of Duluth, William (Barbara) of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Clifford (Deanie) of Yelm, Washington and a sister, Clarice (James) Fiegelson of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

The family would like to thank St. Mary's Hospice Cardiac Care for granting Floyd's final wish, to live out his life in peace at home.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 8, 2007 in Elim Lutheran Church, Blackhoof. Burial was in Elim Lutheran Cemetery.
