Montgomery M. Folsom was one of the best known and most versatile newspaper men in the South, according to the Atlanta Constitution. He was a great and prolific writer of prose and poetry, which was widely read and copied. He died very suddenly of apoplexy.

M. M. Folsom was the son of James Rountree Folsom and Rachael Inman Swain (daughter of Morgan G. Swain and Elizabeth Wooten). His wife's name was Fannie Edna Croft, and their five children were Mrs. F. A. Wynne, Ewell V. Folsom, Noel Folsom, Julia G. Folsom, and Jessie Juanita Folsom. M. M. Folsom also left one brother and one sister when he died, Carroll R. Folsom and Mrs. Minnie Weeks.
