Carl Alder

ELLINWOOD - James Berry Carl Alder, 86, died Dec. 3, 2004, at his home, Ellinwood.

He was born March 5, 1918, at Sneedville, Tenn., the son of Lloyd L. and Margaret Baldwin Alder. An Ellinwood resident since 1980, formerly of Dodge City, Ellsworth and Coldwater, he was a life insurance agent, owner and operator of Alder Trucking, Dodge City, truck driver for Feaster Trucking, Great Bend, farm and ranch hand and auto mechanic, Wilmore.

He belonged to United Methodist Church, Ellinwood, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Isis Shrine, Lions Club and Melvin Jones Fellow.

He was former district governor from 1996 to 1997 and an Ellinwood City Council member from 1990 to 2003. He was awarded Distinguished Citizen in 1991 and the Ellinwood Schools Athletic Award in 2003. He volunteered at Meals on Wheels and commodities distribution.

On May 26, 1939, he married Olive Myers at Coldwater. She died Feb. 23, 1970. Later, on . . . . She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, . . . ; four daughters, . . . ; a stepson, . . . ; two sisters, Helen Haskell, Wellington, and Althea Alder, Everest, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: a son, Ronald L., three brothers, Rudy, Jargie and John; and two sisters, Beatrice O'Dell and Mace Evans.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Ellinwood, with the Rev. Vernon Mealzer presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kimple Funeral Home, Ellinwood. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Ellinwood Food Bank or Lions Club in care of the funeral home.
