Carolyn was the second child born to Delwin L. and Belva Payne Thompson. She lived in Clearfield, and South Ogden, but spent most of her life in Roy, Utah. She graduated from Weber High School and was learning computer word processing at Ogden-Weber Vocational Center. She married Henry Lewis Kuglar on July 7, 1966 in Ogden, but they were later divorced. Carolyn and her husband had four children. She was a member of the Ogden 49th LDS Ward. She held many positions in Primary, Cub Scouts and Den Leader. As a young girl she participated in ward road shows and in regional dance festivals. She worked at Hill Air Force Base and Developement Day School in Layton and ABC Day Care in Ogden.
She and her sister Sheryn were very close when they were growing up.
