Delwin LeRoy Thompson was born October 15, 1923 in Kanesville, Utah. He was the son of Charles Henry and Ada Ann Perry Thompson. Delwin was the fifth child in a family of 9 children. Delwin attended local schools and was raised on a farm. His siblings are; Zelda, Elwood, Leslie, Marcella, Duella, Ray, Thelma and Carol. Delwin worked at the Defense Depot in Ogden where he received many service and safety awards. He retired after 35 years. Delwin married Belva Viana Payne on November 28, 1945 in Kanesville, Utah. On April 22, 1961, their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Delwin and his wife lived in Roy for over 50 years. They raised six children, three girls and three boys. Their children are, Sheryn, Carolyn, Darrel, LuAnn, David, and Wayne. Delwin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in several different organizations. He was in the Elders Quorum Presidency, High Priest Group Leadership, Ward Membership Clerk, and Ward Membership Clerk, and Ward Clerk under five different Bishops. He also served as an Ogden Temple ordinance worker along with his wife Belva. He loved to garden and always grew a large garden every year. His friends and neighbors remember him best for his big tomatoes and sweet peaches. His hobbies included painting and wood working. He enjoyed cutting out wood projects for the Relief Society of his ward. After his retirement he spent a lot of his time oil painting pictures of landscapes which he enjoyed very much. He won awards for some of those paintings. He was asked to paint a very large canvas mountain scene for the Roy Central Stake Float for Ogden City Fourth of July parade which he did. That painting was later put in the Thompson Garden Museum in Roy. Delwin also spent some time writing his life history after the passing of his wife. The last two years of his life he lived in Peach Tree Assisted Living in West Haven, Utah. When he passed away he had Parkinson's
disease and Neuropathy in his right leg.
