Joseph Abler, 73, of St. Cloud, a retired Fond du Lac County farmer, died Saturday at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.
Mr. Abler was born in the St. Cloud area on March 1, 1897, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Abler. He attended area schools and was a veteran of World War I.
He was a life-long resident of the St. Cloud area, engaging in farming until his retirement five years ago.
On May 5, 1925, he married the former Leona Voelker, at St. Cloud.
He was a member of the St. Cloud Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Fr. Larry Abler, OFM Cap., St. Labry Mission, Ashland, Mont.; three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Virgie) Baus, St. Cloud, Mrs. Gus (Alice) Krebsbach, Miss Arlene Abler, Fond du Lac; two grandchildren; two brothers, William, Glenbeulah, and Frank, Fond du Lac.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cloud Catholic Church, with Fr. Larry Abler, Mr. Abler's son, as the principal celebrant. Family rites will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Huss Funeral Home, St. Cloud. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion post.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. A parish and Knights of Columbus vigil will be held there at 8 tonight.

Funeral services for Joseph Abler of St. Cloud, who died Saturday, were held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at LisoweHuss Funeral Home, St. Cloud, and at 10 a.m. at St. Cloud Catholic Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

The Rev. Larry Abler, son of the deceased, was the main celebrant of the concelebrated Mass.

He was assisted by the Rev. Emmett Hoffmann, the Rev. Crispin Weinberger, the Rev. Noel Hedrich, the Rev. Gary Farrell, the Rev. Mark Pesch, the Rev. Theophilus Meyer, the Rev. Werner Wolf, the Rev. James Zelinski, the Rev. Chester Poppa, the Rev. Hilary Zach, the Rev. Lloyd Theil, the Rev. Joe Maloney, the Rev. Rev. Randolph Gracyzk and the Rev. Joel Tueller.

Also assisting Father Abler were the Rev. Carl Lehring, the Rev. Silas Baumann, the Rev. Donald Vowels, the Rev. Rodney Reichling, the Rev. Joe O’Connor, the Rev. Ron Smith, the Rev. James Keilman and the Rev. Elroy Pesch, all Capuchins.

Honorary pallbearers were William Froehlich, Alvin Schroeder, Roy Butz, Walter Lefeber, John Stephanie and Math Diedrich.

Active pallbearers were Joe Lefeber, Howard Voelker, Roger Abler, Milon Gregot, Herman Feldner and Glenroy Gruel.
