MELVIN KNAPP WILL BE BURIED HERE TUESDAY
Prominent Mason and Veteran of Civil War

Funeral services for the late Melvin Knapp, Civil War veteran and a member of high Masonic rank, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the First Christian church. The Rev. William J. Lloyd will officiate.

His fellow members of John Behuler Post No. 67, G.A.R. here will assist, and Masonic orders will be given at the cemetery by Sheridan Lodge No. 8 A.F. and A.M. at the request of Mr. Knapp's home lodge in Iowa.

Mr. Knapp died at 9:30 o'clock Saturday night at this home 955 Illinois street from infirmities of old age.

He was born July 7, 1834 at Plain City, Ohio, and at the time of his death was 90 years of age. He had lived in Sheridan for four years.

He is survived by one son. Dr. E. H. Knapp, and one daughter, Miss Carrie A. Knapp, both of Sheridan and two sisters who live in Iowa.

Mr. Knapp had been a member of the Christian church since before the Civil War. He was past master of the Bellar Lodge No 33 A.F. and A.M. at Numa, IA, of which he was master for 20 years, and was past master of Prosperity
lodge No. 408 of Cincinnati, Ia, of which he was master for seven years.

At the time of his death he belonged to Jackson lodge No.42, Euclid chapter No. 43, R.A.M. and St. John's Commandery No. 21, all of Centerville, Ia. He was on the honor list of masonry and held life mason membership.

Mr. Knapp served for four years under Gen. F. M. Drake in Company "I" 36th infantry during the Civil war.
