"Odom Oracle" by S. P. Barber, page 41 identifies Sarah's parents as: "Josiah OWEN and Ritter BRYAN."

VARIATIONS FOR SARAH OWEN
Sarah's birth date is on her tombstone; birthplace from daughter Julia's death certificate, and census records consistently gave her birthplace as Virginia.
Her middle name is sometimes identified as "Wimbish or Windbush," which is possibly a family surname of an ancestor she could have been named after.

About 1837 - MARRIED.
Shadrack Jarmon ODOM and Sarah W. OWEN were married about 1837, but no marriage record has been found. The MINUTE BOOK of November Term 1837 shows that Sarah was probably already married by November 1837 as she is identified as 'Sarah Odom'. In 1837, Shadrack would have been about age 18/19 and Sarah age 16/17, depending on when they were married. Sarah & Shadrack had 15 known children, with their first child born in Sept. 1838.

ODOM family researcher, LaVerne MARKART, provided the following:
CANNON CO., TN MINUTE BOOK VOLUME A, 1836-1841 - November Term 1837:
page 231 -
'On motion ordered by the court that James Odom be appointed Guardian of Sarah Odom wife of (Shadrack) Odom, formerly Sarah Owens. Whereupon the said James Odom came into open court and together with his security Benjamin F. Odom entered into bond in the sum of $300 payable to John C. Martin, Chairman of the county court of Cannon Co. and his successors in office conditioned as the law directs.'

TN MINUTE BOOK VOLUME A, 1836-1841 - 6 JANUARY 1841 TERM:
page 530 -
'The clerk presented to the court for their confirmation or rejection the following settlements by him made with the following person, to wit. with James Odom guardian of Sarah Odom, formerly Sarah Owens.'
NOTES:
This James ODOM, guardian, is probably James S. ODOM who married Mary FRANCIS and had a brother Benjamin Franklin ODOM (Sr.); children of James ODOM, Jr. and Mary CRISP. Perhaps Sarah's parents had already died, and marrying at a younger age (about 16 or 17) necessitated having a guardian in order to be married?

Sarah and Shadrack had 16 known children, all born in Cannon Co., TN. The family later moved to Ellis Co., Texas.
