U.S. Navy, WW II (Ret.).

During World War II, he served in the Navy Air Corps, Lighter than Air Div. in South America, where he refueled dirigibles that flew over the ocean in search of enemy warships, submarines, and planes headed for Africa to fight Rommel in the war.

He was recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, and was awarded the Victory Medal upon his discharge in 1947.
He was a certified electrician and master carpenter and worked nearly 40 yeas for the Rust Construction Co in Virginia. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of Occoquan and the marinas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Lee Haire Doyle in 1999. They were married on Veteran's Day, November 11, 1947. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Levi & Edna Doyle.

Survivors include his daughter, Robbin Jo HOlland and her sons, J.T. & Jason Holland; daughter, Carla Lee Bowman and her husband, Gene Bowman, and their son, Darrell Bowman, and his son, Jesse Martin Doyle and his wife, Monica Doyle, and their son, Nathan Doyle, and youngest son, James Edward Doyle, Jr.

Interment followed funeral services conducted Monday, December 7, 2009.
