Notice from the Spirit Lake Beacon, Nov. 5, 1909

George Roberts died Thursday at the Cherokee asylum for the insane. Deceased was a resident of this county for more than thirty years. About three years since he was taken to Cherokee, George Roberts was a veteran of the civil war and passed through the terrible experience of Libby prison, which was to a large degree responsible for his mental derandement. Funeral services will be held at Milford today.

George F. Roberts, an old soldier, well-known in this end of the county, died at the Cherokee Hospital last Thursday and the body was shipped to Milford at once arriving here Friday
afternoon, where it was met by the members of Wallar Post, G. A. R. The body was taken at once to the Milford Cemetery, where interment was made and the regular Grand Army service held.

Roberts had been a resident of Milford and vicinity for several years. He was an old soldier, having served in a New York regiment. He was taken prisoner at Hatch's Run and spent several months in the Confederate prison at Belle Isle. It is said the treatment received here to some extent
unsettled his mind for he was always after a rather eccentric character. Several months ago his mind gave way
entirely and he was sent to Cherokee institution. Death resulted from organis heart lesion.
