He was educated in the Rural Burr Oak School and also attended school at Pleasant Plain, Iowa. On March 11, 1920, he was united in marriage to Nellie M. Harris at Glenwood, a marriage that was to last nearly 54 years. The couple lived on the same farm during their entire married life. To this union was born 2 children, Eugene V. of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Stephen L. of Rural Pacific Junction.
Mr. Buckingham was engaged in farming for nearly 50 years and had retired a few years ago.
He served with the United States Army during World War One and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of World War One.
Survivors are his wife; 2 sons; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gladys and Louise; and 2 brothers, Alf and Fay.
Services were conducted at the Peterson Mortuary on Saturday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m. with interment in the Thurman Cemetery.
The American Veterans of WWI formed an honor guard and military rites were performed by the American Legion.
Mrs. Francis Dashner was organist with Neil McPherron as soloist. Rev. J. W. Taenzler officiated. Mrs. Dave Richardson, Sr. cared for the memorial book.
Casket bearers were Donald Schoening, Robert Hockabout, Francis Dashner, Harold Wilkins, James Durham and Harold Harless.
