George Victor "Vic" LaBonte, Jr., 89, husband of Betty Jones LaBonte', formerly of Mountain View Drive, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014, in Envoy of Staunton.

He was born November 16, 1924, in Augusta County, son of the late George V. and Marie Pfifferling LaBonte'.

He served in the Navy during World War II in Europe, Normandy Invasion, and South Pacific on Okinawa until the end of the war. He was educated at Robert E. Lee High School, the University of Missouri, and Hampton-Sidney. He was a professional Engineer and retired after 40 years as President of Echols Brothers Construction Company. He also earned his private pilots license.

In addition to his wife, whom he married on March 8, 1947, in Staunton First Baptist Church, family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn LaBonte' and John Avoli of Staunton, Deborah LaBonte' and David Lumsden of Chesterfield; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Ann LaBonte' Futrell of Advance, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Ann LaBonte'. According to his wishes, there will be a private graveside service in Thornrose Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Envoy for their affectionate care of Vic. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
