Vallie's grandparents; Wm Henry Thomas Cabe and Mary Elizabeth Guffey were from Macon Co., NC and died in the Atlanta, GA area. They are both buried in the Welcome All Community Cemetery in Fulton, Co. GA in unmarked graves.
Vallie's birth mother (George's first wife) was Martha Leona 'Mattie' [Raines] Cabe (b.05/12/1877-d.04/29/1902.) She and George had three children, Vallie Mae, William Henry, (b.03/30/1900-d.07/28/1901); and Pearlie (b.04/17/1902-d.05/22/1902). Their grave sites in NC are yet to be located. They were living at that time in-or-near Franklin, Macon Co. NC. There was a short period of time they lived near the mining town of Ducktown (TN) near Young Harris (GA) as was indicated by the 1900 US census.
1901-02 were bad years for George and 4-5 year old daughter, Vallie. By June of 1902, the two of them were the remaining survivors of the Cabe family of five! In 1903-04, George and Vallie, along with George's parents Wm. Henry Thomas Cabe and Mary Elizabeth [Guffey] Cabe moved from Franklin, NC to Atlanta, GA to find employment in the textile mills.
