MRS. F. H. DeSOMBER

Ellanora DeSomber, daughter of Peter and Betty Shuck, was born May 28, 1867, in Lucas county, Iowa, and passed away Oct. 19, 1939, at her home in Derby, Iowa, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 21 days.

She lived with her parents east of Derby and after completing her early education, attended Simpson College at Indianola, and then taught school for several years.

On August 29, 1889, she was united in marriage to F. H. DeSomber and moved to Derby where the home was established and where she spent the remaining years of her life.

To them ten children were born, namely: Earl, of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Leota Taylor, of Chicago, Ill.; Zella, who preceded her in death in 1894 at the age of four years; Mrs. Trylla Richardson, of Salmon, Idaho; Charley DeSomber, of Kansas City, Mo.; Lester DeSomber, of West Des Moines; Herman DeSomber, of Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. Vera Rubin, of Des Moines; Phyllis DeSomber, of Derby; and Mrs. Geraldine Palmer, of Portland, Oregon.

Mrs. DeSomber suffered a paralytic stroke eleven years ago and has been in failing health since that time. She was cared for by her loving daughters, Geraldine and Phyllis, and through all of her years of suffering remained cheerful and always had a smile for everyone.

She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian church of Derby and attended regularly until her fatal illness.

Besides a host of friends, neighbors and the children, she is survived by her husband; a sister, Mrs. Marian Conner, and two brothers, Charley Shuck, of Derby, and Merritt Shuck, of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Derby Presbyterian church on Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. S. J. Huffman. Burial was in the Derby cemetery.
