Jacob Hartling 67, a farner residing one mile west of Merton, died suddenly last Saturday. When Mr. Hartling failed to put in his appearance at dinner time, Mrs. Hartling went to the field where he had been working, and found him lying between his team of horses. He had been stricken with heart failure when starting to unhitch for dinner.

Jacob Hartling was born in the town of Merton on May 14, 1861, and was married to Mary Grenwis on March 4, 1886. They have resided on the farm ever since their marriage. Mr. Hartling was a thrifty, industrious farmer, and his demise is a shock to the community. He is survived by his wife and 7 children: Mrs Elsie Goerke, Lake Five; Mrs. Cora Peterson, Mrs. Beatrice Serres and Bert Hartling of Hartland; Mrs. Bessie Mount and Mrs Marie Fredrick, Milwaukee; Mrs. Jessie Sedgwick, Menomonee Falls. He is also survived by five sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, with internment in Bark River cemetery, the Rev. M Schwemmer officiating.
