Santee - The funeral for Adonis Norman Avinger Jr., 81, will be at 2 p.m. today in Elloree United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Avinger Funeral Home of Holly Hill, will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.
Mr. Avinger Jr., a retired general manager with Orangeburg Coca Cola Bottling Co., died Monday in an Orangeburg hospital. He was born in Orangeburg, a son of Adonis N. Avinger and Mary Livingston Avinger. He was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and Clemson University. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a board member and president of Home Building & Loan Association, a former board member of S.C. Federal Savings and Loan Association, a board member of Santee-Cooper Resort and Santee-Cooper Country Club, a charter member of Tri-County Homebuilders Association and an advisory board member of the Salvation Army. He was a member of Orangeburg County Board of Realtors and the Elks. He was a Mason and past president of Orangeburg Lions Club.
He was first married to Annabelle Geiger Avinger. Surviving are his wife, Mary Krell Avinger; two sons, Adonis N. Avinger III of Anderson and John O. Avinger of Lancaster; two stepdaughters, Kathy Krell of Columbia and Cindy K. Dantzler of Elloree; a sister, Mary E. Avinger of Orangeburg; a brother, Harry C. Avinger of Orangeburg; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
