I think John woke up in the morning, looked at the clouds and the sun, and some how decided whether he would be John J., John Y., or John I. on that particular day."J" would stand for Jantzi (his mother's maiden name)
"Y" I'm assuming would stand for Yantzi (a variation of Jantzi).
"I" No clue what "I" would stand for. Can someone tell me?

Bender, John Y., son of the late Daniel H. and Magdalena (Yantzi) Bender, was born in East Zorra Twp., Ont., Apr. 20, 1892; died at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Jan. 16, 1969; aged 76 y. 8 m. 27 d. On June 20, 1918, he was married to Mary Jantzi, who died Jan. 4, 1953. Surviving are one son (Daniel), 3 daughters (Elfrieda - Mrs. Rudy Steinman, Laura - Mrs. Willis Lichty, and Selma - Mrs. Nelson Roth), 11 grandchildren, one brother (Allan), and one sister (Elizabeth - Mrs. Nicholas Kuepfer). He was preceded in death by 3 sisters. He was a member of the Maple View Church, Wellesley, Ont., where funeral services were held Jan. 19, with Chris O. Erb and Alvin Leis officiating.

John I. Bender of 61 Brewery St., Baden, formerly of Kingwood, died today at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, after a brief illness. He was 76.

Born in East Zorra Township April 20, 1892, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel H. Bender. He farmed near Kingwood, retiring to Baden in October, 1952. He was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church, Wellesley.

His wife; the former Mary Jantzi predeceased him Jan. 4, 1953. He was also predeceased by three sisters.

Surviving are one son, Daniel of Wellesley and three daughters, Mrs. Rudy (Elfrieda) Steinman, Mrs. Nelson (Selma) Roth, both of RR 2, New Hamburg and Mrs. Willis (Laura) Lichti of RR 1, New Hamburg. Also surviving is a brother, Rev. Allan Bender of Wellesley and a sister, Mrs. Nicholas (Elizabeth) Kuepfer of Millbank. There are 11 grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at Maple View Mennonite Church on Sunday. Burial took place in the church cemetery.

Futher Funeral Home, Wellesley was in charge of arrangements.
