James Montgomery was born in Tennessee, probably in Blount County. He married Mary Ann "Polly" Thompson, the daughter of Nathan D. Thompson, Sr. and Malinda Stone, May 26, 1826, in Blount County, Tennessee. Based on the places and dates of birth of their children, they migrated to Missouri about 1838 and were living in Division 1, Polk County, Missouri, in the 1840 census. They were the parents of these children: Elizabeth (1827-1920); Martha Jane (1832-1878); Malinda Emeline (1834-1920); John H. (1837-abt 1875); Rebecca E (1839-1928); and George P. (1841-1858). His wife, Polly Thompson is also likely buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery, although she does not have a marker at this time. I have two old family letters in my possession telling of her death in late June or early July, 1880, in Polk County.
