Frederick Thomas Armstrong died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct 23, 2001 at Knox Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, OH. He was struck by lightning while squirrel hunting with his best friend, Henry Webber.

Fred was retired from General Motors after 32 years. He was a member of the Springmill Church of God and the GM Retiree Club. He was a WWII US Army veteran. he was born in Lewis County, KY to James Elmer "Shorty" Armstrong and Leah Kimbler Armstrong.

He was survived by his third wife, Lucy Howard Armstrong; daughter, Frieda and her husband, Tom Ballard of Flint, MI; daughter Maryetta of Zeeland, MI; and son, Tom of Plymouth, OH; a stepdaughter, Pamela Stone Best; four stepsons: William Cromberg of Mansfield, OH; Michael Stone of Clay City, OH; and John and Rev. Duane Stone of Crestline, OH; a sister, Elnora Thurman of Newport News, VA; brothers, James Armstrong of Garrison, KY and Harrison Armstrong of Lorain, OH; ten step-grandchildren; ten step- great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his close friend, Henry Webber.

A funeral service was conducted Sat, Oct 27, 2001 at 1 pm at Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Rev. Dr. Bruce A, Philippi and Rev. Joyce A. Wolf officiated with burial at Mansfield Cemetery with military rites.
