THEO MITTENDOR DIES
Prominent Farmer Served With Union Army in Civil War

Theodore Mittendorf, prominent farmer residing southwest of El Reno, died Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the age of 84 years. He was born on January I8, 1845 at, Wapacanetti, Ohio, and at the age of 8 moved with his parents to Hermon, Mo. At the age of 20 he enlisted in the Union army and served throughout the Civil war.

In 1875 he moved to Clay Center Kans., and entered business. On November 18, 1877 he was united in marriage to Antonie Carl, two which union was born eight children. Seven survive: Mrs. W. A. Connell of Rupert, Idaho; Mrs. C. D. Ashenhurst of New Braunfels, Texas; H. P. Mittendorf of El Reno; C. E. Mittendorf of Chicago; Mrs. Roy C. Potts of Washington, D. C.; T. H. Mittendorf of Chico and O. O. Mittendorf of Muskogee.

In 1895 he came to Oklahoma and settled on a homestead southwest of El Reno, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the German Evangelical church of El Reno.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Wilson funeral home by Rev. Haas, Lutheran minister of Oklahoma City, and interment was made in the El Reno cemetery.

PIONEER CITIZEN PASSES AWAY

Theodore Mittendorf, 85 years passed away at his home southwest of town, Monday morning. He had been sick but a short time with a complication of ailments, and on account of his advanced age he could not withstand the advances of the diseases, but gradually grew weaker until death relieved him of his suffering. Thus passed one of the most highly respected citizens of the community.

Theodore Mittendorf was born in Oaklage county, Ohio, January, 1845. Was married to Miss Antonia Carls, in Clay Center, Kans., November 18, 1877. In the spring of 1895 they moved to Oklahoma and settled on their home place where they have since resided, putting all the improvements on the beautiful farm home.

To this union seven children were born all of whom survive him. Carl and Theodore of Chicago, Illinois, Herman of El Reno, Oscar of Muskogee, Mrs. C. D. Ashenhurst of New Braunfels, Texas, Mrs. W. A. Connell of Rupert, Idaho and Mrs. Roy C. Potts of Washington, D. C. All were with their father at his death except Mrs. Connell who could not be here.

During the Civil War Mr. Mittendorf served with the Federal army enlisting from Missouri. On the opening of Oklahoma he came to the frontier to make a home for his family.

Funeral services were held at the Wilson Funeral parlors Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 2:00 o'clock. Burial was made in the El Reno cemetery.

Mr. Mittendorf was taken sick on Mrs. Mittendorf's birthday anniversary, died on their wedding anniversary and was buried on their oldest sons birthday.
