Former Martin County woman
Mrs. Sarah Abel, widow of the late Hiram F. Abel and who was a resident of this county for many years, died on Monday at the home of her son, Oscar B. Abel at Seymour, where she spent the last few years of her life. the body was brought here on the evening train Tuesday and was taken to the home of Willis Abel, a son, where it was held until Wednesday morning when the funeral service was held and interment made in the Abel family cemetery in Halbert township. Sarah Robertson was born in Orange county, Indiana, June 27, 1842, and died at Seymour, March 15, 1920, aged 77 y
ears, 8 months and 17 days. her father died in the Mexican war and her mother died at about the same time, heaving her an orphan at about four yea
rs of age. She made her home with relatives until she arrived at about t
he age of twenty-one. She was united in marriage with Hiram F. Abel on De
cember 26, 1865, and to this union there were born seven children-Miss Anna M. and Oscar B. Abel, of Seymour; Thomas V. Abel, of Indianapolis, and Willis Abel, of this city. her husband Hiram F. Abel, and sons Henry, Charles W. and John W. have preceded her in death. She leaves surviving her four children and sixteen grandchildren. Mrs. Abel had been an invalid since August, 1913, and for the past eight months she has been almost entiroely helpless. She had been a member of the Methodist church since early womanhood, and continued to adhere to its principles throughout her life. She was kind and sympathetic to all and was a devote and dearly loved mother and was a devoted and dearly loved.
