He had the Measles, resulting in disease of the lungs and rheumatism followed. Also, while he was a member of Co. G 66th Reg. Ohio Vol. at battle of Bentonville, N.C. received a gun shot wound of to forehead affecting his head and eyes. In addition, while in Ohio Vol. in Washington D.
C. May 1865 at grand review he had a sunstroke, followed by diarrhea and never recovered from chronic diarrhea. He was member of Co. A 17th Reg. Ind. Vol from 1862 to July 16 1865. After his service he resided in Martin County as a farmer.

ABEL–Hiram F. Abel died at his home in Seymour Monday, March 27, 1911, after a short illness of heart trouble, aged 65 years. Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter and five sons. The remains were taken to Shoals, Tuesday, for burial.
