Adam Kretzer, the son of John Kretzer and Susanah A. Gallentine, was born in Holt County, Missouri on May 30, 1854. He died on September 21, 1890 in Holt County, Missouri and is buried with a headstone in the Tharp Cemetery, Holt County, Missouri. His cause of death at the early age of 36 was not specified.

He married Charlotte "Lottie" E. Garrett on 28 Nov 1875 in Craig, Holt County, Missouri. Charlotte was born March 6, 1856 in German Township, Keokuk County, Iowa to Jeremiah Vardman Garrett and Elizabeth Jane Poole. She died sometime between September 1886 when her last child was born and May 1898 when her mother-in-law died. Susanna Gallentine Kretzer's death resulted in a court case that mentioned all her legal heirs. Adam Kretzer was mentioned as her deceased son and Charlotte "Lottie" would have been mentioned as the legal guardian to the children, but she is not mentioned. Only the surviving children of Adam and Charlotte are mentioned. Probably buried in an unmarked grave in or next to Adam Kretzer's grave which is in Lot 17 of the Tharp Cemetery near other Garrett family members.

CHILDREN OF ADAM AND CHARLOTTE KRETZER:
1. Mary Kretzer, born about 1876 and died before 1898. This child first appeared on the 1876 Missouri State census as Mary Kretzer (under age 10). She very well could be Lura(age 3), who is listed in the 1880 federal census. This child is not mentioned as heir in her grandmother's probate.

2. Lura Kretzer, born about 1877 and died before 1898. This child is only mentioned once for the 1880 federal census. She may actually be Mary Lura or Lura Mary??? She is not mentioned in her grandmother's probate of 1898.

3. Lydia Jane Kretzer, born 16 Aug 1878 in Holt County, Missouri and died in Feb 1964 (per social security death index)in Denver, Colorado. She married first to George Washington Gillenwater on 8 Jun 1895 in Missouri. She married second, to James Barker on 20 Jul 1905 in Jackson County, Missouri.

4. Sarah Nevada Kretzer, born 23 Dec 1880 in Holt County, Missouri. She died 22 Feb 1917 in Holt County, Missouri and is buried in the Tharp Cemetery, Holt County, Missouri. She married Robert Clark Dunnihoo on 13 Sep 1898 in Holt County, Missouri.

5. Ernest Iver Kretzer, born 7 Aug 1883 in Holt County, Missouri. He married Alice L. ( ? ).

6. Jeremiah Floyd Kretzer, born 21 Sep 1886 in Holt County, Missouri. He married Rita M. Markus.

It appears that these children were minors when their parents died and they were raised by Joseph H. Kretzer who was brother to Adam Kretzer. Ernest and Jeremiah Kretzer are listed in their uncle Joseph Kretzer's household for the 1900 federal census for Forbes Twp., Holt County, Missouri.

If anyone can add to this information, I would be grateful to hear from you. Michael M. Thorstad, ggg-grandson of Jeremiah Vardman Garrett and Elizabeth Jane Poole.
