MACON - Spurgeon ''Shorty'' Lilly 90, formerly of Macon and Mount Zion, died Sunday (May 18, 1997) in Aspen Ridge Nursing Home, Decatur.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Ater-Wikoff Funeral Home, Macon, with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Macon Cemetery, Macon. Memorials: donor's choice.

Mr. Lilly was born in Fayette County on April 19, 1907, the son of Henry and Rachel Sculley Lilly. Shorty farmed in Macon County all of his adult life and served at one time on the Macon School Board. He loved to garden and had a great interest in Indian folklore and Indian artifacts. He married Beulah Lanter on Sept. 17, 1927. He and Beulah celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary in September of 1996.

Surviving are his wife; son, Charles and wife Sharon of Decatur; daughter, Norma Nichols and husband Duane of Evansville, Ind.; granddaughters, Denise Goss of Saline, Mich.; Janine Fisher of Evansville, Ind.; great-granddaughters, Heather Goss of Saline, Mich.; Amanda and Amber Fisher, both of Evansville, Ind.; sister, Josephine Long of Greenville.

He was preceded by his parents, daughter, Virgie Lilly, and 11 brothers and sisters.
