Jacob Melcher with his wife, Katherine Poppenheim immigrant to this country in 1889. They made their first home here in the Walla Walla district, remaining there only two years before settling on a homestead southwest of Odessa. This was their home until 1917, when they moved into Odessa. He leaves to mourn him his wife, 3 sons, 2 daughters, 3 brothers, 2 sisters in addition to other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the St Mathews Congregational church by the Rev P Kalmbach who preached two sermons, one in English and the other in German, after which the body was laid to rest in the Odessa Cemetery. ref: Odessa Record 17 Jun 1927
