Funeral services for Gussie C. Kemmerlin Smoak, 93, of Bamberg, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Memorial Church of the Nazarene, 569 Berry St., Orangeburg, with the Rev. Larry Williams and the Rev. Duane Houston officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg.
Pallbearers will be Tony Mestey, Ricky Dennis, Eric Smoak, Randy Culler, Wayne Hughes Jr., Wayne Hutchins, Ralph Hughes and Lance Thomas.
Mrs. Smoak died Sunday, Dec. 19, at Bamberg Nursing Home.
She was born March 15, 1911, in Cordova, the daughter of the late Edward Cherry and the late Melvina McMichael Cherry. She was a member of Garden City Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. John (Mary Lee) Adicks, Mrs. Monroe (Louise) Berry, both of Orangeburg, Lou Esther Browning and her friend, John "Woody" Williams, of Elloree, Nell Huiett, Peggie Halter, both of Orangeburg, and Nancy New, of Cope; two sons and daughter-in-law, Eugene Kemmerlin Jr., of Orangeburg and Danny and Jamie Smoak, of Cordova; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Jerome and Sheila Smoak, of Orangeburg; 25 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg.
Friends may call at the residence of Peggie Halter, 1574 Cordova Road, Orangeburg; at the residence of Mary Lee Adicks, 788 Patriot's Way, Orangeburg; and at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the support they received from the nurses, doctors and staff at Bamberg Nursing Center.
