Arthur T. Johnson
LAPORTE -- Arthur T. Johnson, 75, of 1407 Jefferson Ave., died at 2:35 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Hospital. He had been in ill health two months.
He was born Sept. 9, 1889 in Chesterton, Ind., and he had lived here since 1920. Mr. Johnson was retired from his own grocery business in 1943. He was married in 1909 in Porter, Ind., to the former Martha Lundquist, who died in 1944. He married Helen B. Carson on Feb. 21, 1947, who survives. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, secretary of the LaPorte Senior Citizen League and a member, also the Choir of Bethany Church. His other survivors in addition to his widow is a son, Lawrence C. Johnson, of LaPorte; a daughter, Mrs. Fred Decker, of LaPorte; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Tilden Palm, Mrs. Egbert Johnson, Mrs. Emil Rosenow, Mrs. Ellis Berg and Mrs. Carl Garwood, all of LaPorte, and two brothers, Norman Johnson, of LaPorte and Clarence Johnson, of Chesterton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bethany Lutheran Church, with Rev. H. Milton Lundahl, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from Tuesday noon in the Otto E. Giese Funeral Home, until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when the body will be taken to the church and lie in state until the time of services.
