JAMES WYATT PADGETT
James Wyatt Padgett was born in Trimble County, Kentucky, Dec. 10, 1847 and died at Appleton City, Missouri, July 12, 1925, aged 77 years, 7 months and 2 days. He had been in failing health for a number of years, suffering from paralysis and Bright's disease.
At the age of two years, he with his parents, moved to Lebanon, Indiana, where he grew to manhood. In 1864 he enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War, and served until the close. He was married to Martha E. Powell of Chariton County, Missouri, Aug. 15, 1872. There were four children born to this union, two dying in infancy. Those living are Mrs. Nettie Ashley of Kansas City, and Mrs. Daisy Andrews of Butler, Missouri. His wife died Oct. 1, 1883.
He was married to Sarah McDonald of Lebanon, Indiana, July 3, 1884. They came to Missouri in November of the same year, and located on a farm five miles west of Appleton City, where they resided until a year ago last March, when, on account of failing health, they moved to town.
To this union six children were born, Odessa, Leila, Floe, William, Bertha and Everett.
Mr. Padgett was a devoted husband and loving father, and loved by all who knew him.
Early in life he united with the Christian church, and later he and his wife cast their lot with the Christian Church at Appleton City.
He leaves his wife, eight children, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a niece, Mrs. Harvey Smith; one brother, John P. Padgett; and two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Alexander and Mrs. Henrietta Bachman of Indianapolis, Indiana.
